Batik is an ancient technique for decorating fabrics in Africa, the Middle East, and many East Asian countries such as Indonesia, and Malaysia. This term has its origin in Java, and pertains to a generic dyeing method for producing designs on fabrics with the application of melted wax. The popular techniques of applying the wax to the fabric are either by painting on it with a brush or by pouring the liquid wax on the cloth. Sometimes, the fabric is stamped by a carved metal or wooden block containing hot wax. Unique patterns are obtained on the fabric after paint is applied over the layer of wax. Read more....
